Why Write an Interview Thank You Letter

Once you have attended a Job Interview (either first interview or second interview) you may want to write your potential employer a letter thanking them for their time and giving you the opportunity to find out more about the job and the company. Not all candidates will take the time to write a letter of thanks so in doing so you will stand out from the crowd. It will also show how enthusiastic you are about the job and the company.

Thank You Letter Hints and Tips: Job Interviews

• Once you have attended an interview, you should post or email your letter of thanks at the earliest opportunity available (ideally within 24hrs). The thank you letter should be received before the employer has made their decision (either to offer a second interview or make an offer of employment).
• Send a separate letter to each person who interviewed you.
• Consider the culture of the company and the rapport you built during your interview. If the interview was informal / formal reflect this in the thank you letter. If in doubt, remain polite but try inject some personality into it.
• It is a good opportunity to reinforce any points you mentioned in your CV, Cover Letter or Job Interview.
• Try to include a couple of points you learnt about the company or role in your interview. This shows you paid attention and have good recall.
