Job Declination Letter
If you have been offered a new job and decide not to take it you should always let the company know your decision. Not only is this common courtesy but you never know if your paths will cross in the future. Even if you have declined a job offer over the telephone or verbally it is best to put your decision in writing and make sure you send it directly to the person who has offered the job.
How to Write a Declination Letter
• Similarly to a cover letter and job acceptance letter, make sure you address the letter to the right person and check your spelling and grammar. If you are writing to a female it is best to use Ms (regardless of marital status).
• Always show your appreciation and thanking the employer for the job offer is very important.
• Be concise and to the point but remain polite.
• Give a reason for declining the job offer e.g. accepted another role, salary did not meet your expectations.
• Always keep a copy of Job related correspondence in a file for future reference.
